Discovering Polyvore.com

5 Jan

I fell in love with the Polyvore website, it’s everything a girl could ask for. Polyvore is an online resource for someone who wants to window shop, play dress up or just spend a few hours looking through creative assortments of pictures.

With the help of one of their browser plug-in, you can add almost any item from any online store to its massive library and use those pieces to put together an outfit or a piece of art.

When each of these creations are done, they look like the above picture. But Polyvore offers a great tool to its users beside letting them play stylist online, each piece of the above picture has a link attached to it and by a simple click of the mouse you are off to the specific website for each item, taking the guess-work and the hassle of browsing through pages and pages of different website to a thing of the past. Unfortunately WordPress doesn’t let me add the proper code to the picture so, I can’t properly demonstrate this amazing tool. (Grrr…..)

I’ll be honest it took me awhile to learn how to make one of these pictures together since the picture library is very extensive (no worries you can search through products by category or designer) but the result made me very proud of my skills as a stylist! haha

I picked the picture from “vale<3” because I could see myself wearing that outfit. This is a simple example of what Polyvore users can put together. So go and see what you can create!

Happy styling!!!!!!

I love movies!

1 Jan

I decided to take sometime and write a list of my favorite movies. I can’t think of all of them now, but I’ll put down as many as I remember and I’ll add updates as I remember them. Here’s the list in no particular order:

– The Note Book: Aww, I love this movie, every time i watch it I cry like a baby. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling are super hot in the movie. I always dream about having a relationship so deep that even if things don’t work out right away, somehow everything would turn out fine. I must say I don’t want to lose my memories of the greatest love of my life like she did, but all in all a great movie.

– Gone with the wind: Use to be one of my favorite movies and books. I watched that movie so much that I eventually ended up not being able to watch it for a very long time. How sad is that! I use to have the biggest crush on Clark Gable. So smug and full of himself, and Scarlett just annoyed the hell out of me, so stupid! I recommend this movie, since its such a classic thing and everyone should watch it!

– When Harry met Sally: I absolutely adore this movie, the idea of falling in love with your best friend has crossed almost everyone’s head at one point or another and this movie is the best way to show it. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are amazing on screen together. I can’t even count the number of times a guy friend and I had the type of discussion they had and we pretty much to the same conclusion as they did, a guy and a girl can’t just be friends, sex always changes everything! (I’m actually watching this right now for the 2nd time in row tonight! lol)

– Sliding doors: Another fantastic movie about the what if things had happened in a different way. I’m not a big fan of Gwyneth Paltrow, but she was good and John Hannah is an adorable character.

– Star Trek 2009: Lots of hot guys in my favorite sci-fi movie. I’m a big Trekkie fan and I pretty much have seen all the episodes of all Star Trek shows, all generations. When I watched the latest  Star Trek movie I experienced all the emotions a director/producer wants a movie goer to experience, scared, excited, sad, happy and giddy (My friend was not very happy when I cried in the theater after Kirk’s dad exploded along with his ship! lol) . It was a great come back for Star Trek and I have to buy the DVD for it!

– Love Actually: Very cute movie filled with lots of lovable British cast. One of my favorite parts is when Keira Knightley’s husband’s friend tells her how he feels about her. I loved the delivery! The movie starts off confusing with too many story lines goign on at the same time but it will all make sense at the end, just keep on watching.

– You’ve got mail: Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have a few movies together and I must say they are a winning team! The whole concept of falling in love over the internet was such a big thing and probably still is, but to be able to make it in a sweet un-creepy way was great. Even though if I was in Ryan’s shoes would have kicked Hank’s butt for playing with my mind for awhile, I would have totally had the same reaction when she found out that her mystery friend from the net is the same person who put her out of job and she had grown to love. What a wonderful world!

– I love you man: My mom and I have a big crush on Paul Rudd and we thing Jason Segel is a cute, awkward giant! The idea of finding friends after a certain age is pretty hard, most people find their friends either in the last years of high school or during the college /university years and as we get older finding friends gets harder and harder. So having to go along with these guys on their “man dates” is a total treat. The combination uptight Rudd and easy going Segel just totally makes the movie worth watching.

– Under the Tuscan sun:  This movie came out a few months after I returned from studying in Italy and I could not have been happier. I wish I could be able to drop my life here and go buy a half ruined villa in Tuscany and forget all about the crap that the modern city dwellers have to deal with.I love Diane Lane, she’s so pretty and amazing. I hope I look like her when i get to her age! ahahah

– Something’s gotta give: I liked this movie because it shows that even if people are old and single there’s still hope for finding love. I think the combination of the actors in this movie just make it even better. This is a total family movie that you can watch with people of all ages, even though there’s a little bit of sex goign on, it’s more funny than x rated.

Love the Discounts!

9 Nov

I’m not sure why people are still talking about the recession and using lines  like “in these tough times”, I work in a retail store and I see no tough times, i see lots of demanding people who want to get more for their buck but oh boy oh boy, they have no problem dropping a few bills for a pair of pants, t-shirts and a sweater given the perk of having their discount coupons!!!!

I for one love discounts and promotions and secret shopping events. There’s nothing better than knowing that I paid %40 less than other people for my cashmere sweater, or that I remembered that there was a %20 discount coupon in LouLou for a store that I want to shop at. One of the things I have learned by working in retail is, always make friends with the staff or the managers, it pays off!

I’m not saying like anything sketchy is going on, but lets say they might give you an extra coupon or let you know when new items are going on sale and offering to put a side your size for you, giving you an advantage over other shoppers. Another tip is to always have an email account dedicated to mailing lists to your favorite retailers, extra coupons people!! So next time you’re shopping at your favorite store, pay attention to the person who’s helping you, ask their name and ask if they have a mailing list.

Here are some of my favorite stores in Canada who happen to have good mailing lists:

BCBG.com : random discounts and $100 off of you purchase of $300 and more

Shoppersdrugmart.ca : 20 times the points, 15 times the point or %15 off

Bananarepublic.ca: Spend $125 get %25 off, random coupons for %25 to %30 off, secret events

Clubmonaco.com: Gift with purchase or student discounts

Bestbuy.ca: Sales, promotions and if you’re a reward member coupons!!!

Ill let you guys know if there are more good sites to sign up for…. 🙂

Happy discount shopping!!!!!! 🙂

Aids and Hitler in the same category?

10 Sep
I was reading an article about the new AIDS prevention ad that was just released in Germany today. The message of this ad is very clear to the point that they went as far as comparing the most hated figure in the German history if not the world to AIDS.
The ad might come across a little raunchy but I think Europeans are a bit more open when it comes to sex and sex related issues, so it seems to be just very straight forward in my eyes. You have unprotected sense with a strange person you might as well get it on with a mass murderer. I think AIDS have been around for such a long time that it does not need sugarcoating anymore. The more clear the message is the better it would be understood.

I happen to dig a little deeper and found some interesting reactions to the video, some really hated and other thought it’s just another ad that falls on dead ears. I personally thought it was an interesting ad. I’ve seen plenty of AIDS prevention ads and after awhile they all look the same. I’m not saying they’re not working or anything like that, I just think the topic still needs the attention it needs to reach more people. Make it more interesting and people would be paying attention not just flip the channel and move on.

That’s my 2 cents about this ad. I managed to find the ad online so I’m goign to post a link for the video here. So if you are UNDER 18, EASILY EMBARRASSED BY SEXUAL IMAGES AND NUDITY AND ALL THAT DO NOT WATCH IT. I don’t need to get messages from angry mothers, bloggers and what not about this, consider yourselves warned!
